Heavy steel plate cutting is the starting point for many machine frames, equipment bases, brackets and industrial steel components. An effective RFQ should include more than a part outline. It should explain the material, quantity, critical dimensions and the process that follows cutting.
The objective is to supply a cut part that suits the next stage of the project, whether that is direct delivery, machining, welding or assembly.
Begin With the Complete Drawing Package
Provide the latest available drawing in PDF, DWG, DXF or STEP format. A part drawing is the foundation for a cutting review, while an assembly drawing can help explain interfaces and downstream requirements.
The supplier also needs to know the material specification, plate thickness, part dimensions and quantity. If a project has critical dimensions, tolerances, weld preparation or machining requirements, include them in the same request.

Match the Cutting Method to the Project

Plan for Machining or Welding Before Cutting
A cut blank may be the finished supply item, or it may be an input for later fabrication. If the part needs CNC machining, provide the relevant features such as bores, holes, threads, mounting faces or critical surfaces. If it needs welding, include the assembly relationship and welding requirements.
Planning the route early helps align the cut part with later work. For example, a machine base or frame can move from plate cutting to fitting, welding and final machining as required by the design.
