How to Inspect Custom Steel Components Before Delivery
Inspection should follow the customer drawing and agreed project requirements. Clear inspection requirements help the manufacturer prepare the right production route and help the buyer receive components at the required delivery stage.
Begin with dimensional review. Identify critical dimensions, hole locations, mounting surfaces, interfaces and tolerances on the drawing. These features should be reviewed before packing, especially when the component will be machined further or assembled with other parts.
Use visual inspection to review the completed component for the agreed manufacturing stage. For fabricated or welded components, the drawing and technical requirements should state the areas that require particular attention. If assembly is included, check the fitting and positioning of the supplied parts.
Match inspection to the delivery stage. Cutting blanks, machine-ready parts, machined parts, welded assemblies and finished components do not require the same review points. State the required stage and any specific inspection or packing requirements in the RFQ.
Provide the documentation needed for the review. Send the latest drawing revision, material specification, dimensions, quantity, required processes and inspection requirements. For multi-part work, include an assembly drawing or bill of materials.
