Heavy steel welding fabrication combines prepared steel parts into custom frames, equipment bases, support structures and industrial machinery components.
During the project review, the supplier needs to understand how the individual parts fit together, the required delivery condition and whether CNC machining is needed after welding.

Define the Component and Its Delivery Condition
Begin by explaining how the welded component will be used in the final equipment. Typical examples include:

This information helps the supplier understand the relationship between the assembly drawing and the individual cut or machined parts.
Buyers should also define the required delivery condition. The scope may end with a welded structure, or it may continue through post-weld machining, assembly, final inspection and packing.
Provide Part Drawings and Assembly Information
For a welded component made from multiple parts, provide the assembly drawing together with the available drawings for each individual part. A bill of materials can also help define the manufacturing scope when different components or materials are involved.
The RFQ should identify:
- Material grade or specification
- Part and assembly dimensions
- Required quantity
- Relationships between individual components
- Welding locations and requirements
- Critical dimensions and interface positions
- Post-weld machining requirements

If the assembly contains customer-supplied or purchased parts, identify them separately so that the supply scope remains clear.

Consider Machining Requirements Before Welding
Some welded components require CNC machining after fabrication. Typical features may include:

If post-weld machining is required, identify it during the RFQ stage. The manufacturing route can then be reviewed from material preparation and plate cutting through fitting, welding, CNC boring, milling, turning or drilling.

Identify Critical Dimensions and Inspection Requirements

For machine frames and equipment bases, pay particular attention to interfaces that connect with other equipment components. The drawing should distinguish dimensions for individual parts from the final dimensions of the completed welded structure.
